, WILL OPEN AT THE CU Art Museum, in Colorado, on Friday, February 8. Presenting four chapters of
’s ongoing
Black Maps
series, the works focus on landscapes in the American West that have been transformed through the physical and environmental effects of industrial-scale water diversion projects, open-pit mineral extraction, and urban sprawl.
Born in New York City in 1961,
received his BA from Princeton University and his MFA from California College of the Arts, in addition to studying at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. Now based in San Francisco,
was a Scholar in Residence at the Getty Research Institute in 2007 and an Artist in Residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts in 2008. His large format aerial photographs chronicle the complex relationships between natural systems and human intervention, depicting environmentally impacted sites including open pit mines, clear-cut forests, and zones of water reclamation.
