SOME/THINGS TRAVEL TO THE ROYAL APARTMENTS IN THE PALAZZO PITTI, FLORENCE

originally the town residence of Luca Pitti, an ambitious Florentine banker, the PALAZZO PITTI dates from 1458. following this, the palace was bought by the medici family who became the chief residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. In the late 18th century, the PALAZZO was taken over by Napoleon, and later served for a brief period as the principal royal palace of the newly united Italy. today the palace serves as one of florence's largest art galleries, housing several minor collections in addition to those of the Medici family.

the PALAZZO PITTI was recently showing Japan: Land of Enchantment, an exhibition illustrating the influences that Japanese art has had on western culture, focussing especially on italy & tuscany. the last image is a piece from this exhibition, that ended on July 1st, 2012.
