THE VESPER PROJECT BY TITUS KAPHAR AT FRIEDMAN BENDA NEW YORK

Titus Kaphar’s new installation, 'The Vesper Project', which opened on February 28th at Friedman Benda New York, consists of three reconstructed rooms in which Kaphar’s own work is seamlessly woven into the walls of a 19th-century American house. The result of a 5-year engagement documenting the personal histories of the Vesper family, Kaphar uses period architecture, gilt frames, a vintage typewriter, a neglected wardrobe, and old photographs to explore the intersection of memory, story, and history, creating a fractured experience for the viewer.
