THEODOROS ANGELOPOULOS 27 April 1935 – 24 January 2012

MONIKA BIELSKYTE / WHAT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE?

THEO ANGELOPOULOS / A JOYFUL BEAUTIFUL OR SAD BEAUTIFUL? THE DEATH OF MY MOTHER... BECAUSE I FELT IT ON MY PALM, I COULD SENSE HER LEAVING. IT WAS A MOMENT I CAN NEVER FORGET, THE MYSTERY OF LIFE & DEATH, & THE INVISIBLE PASSAGE BETWEEN THE 2 WORLDS. & THE HAPPY BEAUTIFUL MOMENT... THE BIRTH OF MY DAUGHTER, MY secoND DAUGHTER, BECAUSE I COULD SEE HER COME THROUGH, I WAS THERE, IN THE OPERATION ROOM. I WAS LIKE A FILM DIRECTOR, THERE IN FRONT OF HER, WITH HER LEGS LIFTED. I COULD SEE HER THERE, HER FACE IN PROFOUND SUFFERING, & LITTLE BY LITTLE, MY DAUGHTER COMING THROUGH FROM MY WIFE’S GUTS, IT WAS MAGIC. I JUST STOOD THERE, DUMBFOUNDED, WITH NO SENSE OF TIME, NO SENSE OF PLACE... SO THAT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, JOYFUL THING I HAVE EVER SEEN.
